Margaret Fletcher Receives 2021 Auburn Author Award
Gresham Associate Professor of Architecture Margaret Fletcher was recently named as one of seventeen recipients of the 2021 Auburn Author Awards.
Sponsored by the Auburn University Libraries and The Graduate School, the Auburn Author Awards program recognizes faculty and library staff members who published a book length scholarly work during the previous calendar year. Fletcher published two books over the past year, Visual Communication for Architects and Designers: Constructing the Persuasive Presentation and Architectural Styles: A Visual Guide, and was recognized for both books. This is the second time that Fletcher has been honored with this recognition: she received her first Auburn Author Award for the book Constructing the Persuasive Portfolio; The Only Primer You’ll Ever Need. Please join the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture in congratulating Gresham Associate Professor Margaret Fletcher on the recognition of her hard work.

Constructing the Persuasive Portfolio provides a much-needed detailed focus to the art of designing a compelling and effective architectural portfolio. While no design process is truly linear, Fletcher’s categorization of the complex architectural portfolio design process into achievable segments creates a straightforward and understandable step-by-step method.

Visual Communication for Architects and Designers: Constructing the Persuasive Presentation presents the work of 180 designers from 130 different schools representing 24 countries in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania and Africa. The publication serves as a reference manual of best practices necessary for the successful presentation of architectural work.

Architectural Styles: A Visual Guide crosses the world from Europe and the Americas to Egypt, China, and India while looking at key architectural elements. The book outlines international historical and contemporary architectural styles and describes the characteristics of the buildings and traditions of different eras and regions of the world. Illustrated by Robbie Polley, the book is modeled after an architect’s plein air sketchbook and features hundreds of detailed drawings.
