Farrow named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Professor Ben Farrow has been named the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Programs for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. Farrow is a tenured Associate Professor and William Hunt Professor in the McWhorter School of Building Science. He is also the chair of the undergraduate program in Building Science.

Farrow holds a MBA from Vanderbilt University, a MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS in Civil Engineering from Duke University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology through the College of Education at Auburn University.

He worked in industry for 15 years before he joined the Building Science faculty in 2006. His teaching areas include Structures, Project Development and Planning and Construction Communication. He also taught at the graduate level in the Building Science program and in the Master of Real Estate Development Program. At Auburn, Farrow has led student competition teams, study abroad and service learning programs. Nationally, he serves as the 2nd Vice President for the Associated Schools of Construction.

“I look forward to working with Ben in this new role and am confident his experience and leadership will be an asset for the college,” said Dr. Vini Nathan, Dean and McWhorter Endowed Chair.

Beginning August 1st, 2016, Farrow will be responsible for all matters broadly related to undergraduate academic programs in the college. He will work closely with college leadership and the faculty to assist with curricular processes, provide oversight of program assessment, oversee undergraduate study abroad programs and manage student recruitment, advising and placement.

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve Auburn and the CADC as the Associate Dean. It’s great to work at a university where faculty members have opportunities for leadership positions like this. For ten years, I’ve been so fortunate to work in the classroom with Auburn students. I have loved teaching at Auburn! I now look forward to working with students from a different perspective and working with the faculty and staff from across the CADC to continue the great work they do at Auburn,” said Ben Farrow.

Farrow is replacing Professor Bret Smith, who has served as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Programs for the past three years.
