Bell Receives Janet and John Stone Lectureship

Dr. Carla Jackson Bell, Director of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, has received the Janet and John Stone Lectureship for Multicultural Understanding, Equality and Justice from the Auburn’s Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs. The Janet and John Stone Award and Lectureship are designed to honor individuals who have exhibited outstanding service in promoting cultural and racial understanding, equality, and justice at Auburn University. Nominations and applications were submitted for faculty, staff and students from several different departments, schools and colleges.

Bell received a cash award and presented a public lecture “Lifting the Veil: Teaching Cultural Relevance to Architecture Students,” on November 16, 2015, in the Caroline Marshal Draughon Auditorium. Throughout her 22 years of professional experience, Bell’s primary research focus in architecture education has been on uncovering teaching approaches that are more inclusive of underrepresented women and people of color.
