Architecture Professor Emeritus Steffen Doerstling Passes Away

Professor Emeritus Steffen R. Doerstling, PhD, passed away on Saturday, April 19. He was 86. Doerstling joined Auburn Architecture faculty in 1966 and retired in 1995. He is survived by his wife Ingrid, his son, Mark, his daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

“Steffen touched the lives of many, many Auburn architecture students over the course of his 29 years on our faculty,” says David Hinson, Head of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. “His enthusiasm for teaching awakened many would-be architects to a love of architectural history and his humor and wit generated many smiles. Just about everyone who knew him has a ‘Steffen story.’ He will be missed here in Dudley Hall and around the Auburn community.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercy Fund at Auburn United Methodist Church or to the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
