BSCI Faculty Member Honored by CMAA
Dr. Wesley Collins, an Associate Professor in Auburn’s McWhorter School of Building Science, has been honored with the Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) 2024 Mark Hasso Educator of the Year Award.
CMAA’s prestigious award, presented to both Collins and Dr. Payam Bakshi of the Wentworth Institute of Technology, recognizes full-time educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication to construction management education. The Mark Hasso Educator of the Year Award emphasizes excellence in teaching, recognizing educators who make extraordinary contributions to construction management. Collins was chosen for his leadership, dedication and his ability to inspire future construction professionals.
Collins was nominated for this honor by Dr. Heather Yates, President of the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC), an organization comprising approximately 170 member schools worldwide.
“I nominated Wes due to his exceptional dedication to enhancing construction education through innovative teaching methods and active learning practices, which have significantly improved students’ understanding and industry preparedness,” Yates stated.
Auburn’s rich history of engagement with ASC, including hosting its 60th annual conference, is reflected in faculty like Collins. Throughout the years, Collins has coached numerous ASC student competition teams and served as co-chair of a faculty training bootcamp, Lead Guest Editor of ASC’s 20th anniversary special issue of the International Journal for Construction Education and Research and an Associate Proceedings Editor. Earlier this year, he was elevated to Proceedings Editor and named an ASC Board Member.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Mark Hasso Educator of the Year Award,” Collins shared, “recognizing my dedication to empowering students through innovative teaching and fostering their growth and success in the construction management field.”
