Animation in Architecture Education
Architecture faculty member Mary English is examining ways to use animated drawings to help architecture students understand the relationship between plans and building construction. Using hand drawn form, color to highlight, transparency to show relationships, sound to punctuate and text to denote are ways help provide clarity to architecture students about how buildings are made. English is applying her methodology to a range of structures. Examples of information that benefit from communication through animation: design ideas, massing of a building on a site, the assembly of the building envelope, the relationship of the building enclosure to the structure, the analysis of the structure and passive heating and cooling. Professor English presented her initial work at the Auburn Faculty Research Symposium in January 2021.
Mary English is Assistant Professor of Architecture in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture.
