Green Infrastructure Evaluation to Mediate Flooding Impact

Gulf Coast Mississippi Sea Grant

Charlene LeBleu is Co-PI on an interdisciplinary Mississippi Sea Grant to mediate the impacts of local flooding in the Mississippi-Alabama Coastal Region. This research will improve understanding of the Alabama-Mississippi region’s coastal resources by identifying strategies to protect green spaces from future development as well as strategies to prevent or mitigate local flooding. The researchers will investigate the effectiveness and economic impact of green infrastructure in the reduction of flood and stormwater hazards and define an active role for planning disciplines in the reduction of the risk and damage of flooding events. Both quantitative and qualitative evidence-based evaluation methods will provide an in-depth understanding of current related planning practices and their outcomes.

Charlene LeBleu is Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at Auburn’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.
