Adam Barrett Miller is a designer, researcher and educator investigating responsive design, environments, collective life, environmental systems, infrastructure, adaptation and human experience through architecture, ephemeral installations and writing. Miller is interested in fun and dignity for all. That includes asking questions about why we design and for whom, how to expand participation in the field of design, and what counts as design in the first place. He is Director of PNEU STARS Design Group, a design and build firm specializing in temporary design, including stage production for music festivals. Miller was previously the Muschenheim Design Fellow at the University of Michigan (2021–2023), the Race & Gender in the Built Environment Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin (2019–2021) and has taught as a Lecturer in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley and the Academy of Art University.
