Graphic Design Student to Serve as CADC’s Fall Commencement Marshal
Lavens Maginnis of Columbiana, Ala., has been selected as the student marshal for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) at Auburn University’s fall 2025 commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, December 13.
Maginnis will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD).
“I have always enjoyed the fine arts and celebrating the true, beautiful and good,” Maginnis said, drawn to the renowned program, as well as Auburn’s small-town atmosphere that provides both academic and social opportunities for students.
“Graphic design was the perfect choice when deciding which path to pursue in life because it allows me to celebrate what is beautiful and share it with others.”
During her time at Auburn, Maginnis designed an app that consolidated personal documents into an accessible, secure digital platform, which was included in Auburn’s SHOWCASE 2025, and presented group designs for bioplastic lanterns at the Biodesign Challenge Summit in New York City. Her projects were recognized in the Graphis New Talent Awards in both 2024 and 2025.
“The CADC has instilled in me the value of thinking critically and paying attention to detail and craft in my work,” she said.

Those skills carry over into her work as a graphic designer for Auburn’s College of Nursing, building on what she learned as an intern at Chester’s Chicken. She plans to continue her career in Birmingham, where she aspires to design book covers in the publishing industry.
In addition to classes and work, Maginnis served as the president of the Reformed University Fellowship ministry team for three years.
“Auburn has given me a place to grow personally by helping me to learn how to create a strong community around me,” she said. “It has provided me with close relationships that will last, Lord-willing, for years.”
