Building Science Student to Serve as CADC’s Summer Commencement Marshal

Fontaine will receive a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from the McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI). During her time at Auburn, Fontaine served as a CADC Ambassador and was the Marketing Co-Chair of Auburn’s Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America Student Chapter. She was also involved in Sigma Lambda Chi, the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 8 Student Competition—in which her team won second place and she was recognized as the Individual Best Speaker—and both Intramural Flag Football and Softball.

Fontaine said her mom—who had built a successful career in the male-dominated plumbing industry—encouraged her to pursue a career in the construction industry.

“She has always encouraged me to pursue opportunities based on my abilities and interests rather than allowing stereotypes to define my path,” Fontaine said, expressing her childhood fascination with construction sites, as well as a love for the personal connections and trust that people can build within the industry. “I have always wanted to grow up to be a person that people relied on to solve their problems and make a meaningful impact, and I believe the construction industry provides the perfect opportunity to do that.”

Fontain said that Auburn has contributed to both her professional development—through the knowledge, skills and experiences she received in the Building Science program—and her personal growth through the faculty’s investment in her future.

“Throughout my time here, I have been continuously encouraged, challenged and supported in every endeavor I have pursued,” she said. “From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt valued and cared for by people who were invested not only in my professional success but also in the person I was becoming.”

As a CADC Ambassador, Fontaine regularly shared the personal impact the BSCI program has had on her with prospective families on their tours of the College.

“It truly makes a difference in such a formative time in your life to have people in your corner rooting for you,” she said. “Their guidance and support have shaped me into a more confident, capable and well-rounded young woman, and for that I will always be grateful.”
