BSCI Grad Student Wins Remodeling Award

James Satchell, a graduate student in the McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI), was recognized by the Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards.

The competition is hosted by the Home Builders Association of Alabama and is open to remodeling contractors, builders, architects, kitchen and bath specialists and other remodeling professionals across the state.

Satchell accepted the first place award in April.

Satchell has owned and led Alabama Construction Pros., based in Montgomery, for the past six years. In April, he won first place in the $100,000–$200,000 Kitchen Remodel category for his work on Wynlakes Kitchen Remodel Project.

The design incorporates large windows to look out over the clients’ property.

The project transformed a dilapidated outdoor kitchen into a 1,000-square foot kitchen that can entertain up to 30 guests. With a dedicated butler’s pantry and full bar, the room is centered around a 10-foot by 6-foot waterfall marble island and features aerated fruit cabinets for fresh produce, custom spice racks and a Wolf gas cooktop.
