ARCH Alum Named to WAF 40 Under 40
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) and The Architect’s Newspaper have recognized Mayur Patel ‘10, alum of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture to its 2025 40 Under 40 list for North America.
Presented at the World Architecture Festival in Miami in November 2025, the inaugural award highlights 40 outstanding young architects from the United States, Canada and Mexico. An architect with. Perkins&Will in Chicago, Patel has nearly 15 years of experience spanning interiors and architecture and blends the disciplines to create spaces with precision, restraint and intention. He works to bring clarity to complexity through a disciplined yet expressive design approach.

“At the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, I learned to see architecture as a layered experience—spaces that reveal themselves across scales, from the sweeping urban context to the intimacy of human interaction,” he said. “Design, I was taught, is never just a building; it is the totality of experience, atmosphere and human connection.”
His design authorship has influenced multiple award-winning projects at Perkins&Will, including a workspace for Skender Construction and the Shure Lobby and Cafe Renovation, both of which received awards from both WAF and the Chicago American Institute of Architects.
Known for bringing teams together through listening and shared design ownership, Mayur mentors emerging designers while advancing a collaborative, forward-looking architectural vision.

“Being recognized as World Architecture Festival’s and Architects Newspaper’s 40 Under 40 is a meaningful affirmation of the work my teams and I pursue together,” he said. “It’s not just about past projects—it’s an encouragement to continue exploring architecture as a layered, experiential practice, shaping spaces that connect people and inspire communities.”
