The scholarship honors Harp, a BSCI graduate who worked with Brasfield and Gorrie in Atlanta as well as North Georgia Concrete and passed away due to a rare form of cancer in January 2024.

Harp followed in the footsteps of his parents in attending Auburn. His mother, Julie, is a 1990 graduate of the Harbert College of Business while his father, Allen, earned his building science degree in 1989. In addition, his brother Harrison earned his degree in 2021 in Wildlife Enterprise Management.

In January 2022, Harp was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, an Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Cardiac Sarcoma, which he battled for the next two years. In establishing the scholarship, his parents wish to recognize their son’s love for Auburn as well as establish a legacy for him that would assist future students.

“Don fell in love with Auburn at an early age and, following in his father’s footsteps, he was accepted into the McWhorter School of Building Science and graduated with honors,” his parents wrote in setting up the endowment. “He enjoyed making lifelong friends at Auburn both in his education and Greek life as a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. This endowment will honor him in a place and field of study he loved, while also allowing his character and beliefs to continue to walk the campus of Auburn through future recipients.”

Applicants for the endowed scholarships, which are annually renewable, must be building science majors in good academic standing as well as Georgia residents. In the case no Georgia student meets the requirements, other out-of-state students may also be considered. In addition, applicants should have demonstrated outstanding leadership and character by being involved in an Auburn University student organization.
