Community Needs Assessment in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana

Junshan Liu using LiDar

CADC faculty from graphic design and the McWhorter School of Building Science collaborated to conduct a community needs assessment in Sekondi-Takoradi with plans for a second phase incorporating students to address the need. Working with the mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, city planners, and Dr. Elizabeth Essamuah-Quansah, Director of Auburn University Outreach Global, the team looked at two sites: a regional hospital and a park. The team conducted an onsite needs assessment of both sites with documentation by LiDAR, UAV aerial photography and conventional photography. It was determined that the best impact the research team could have utilizing these methodologies was for a community park project that was in the initial planning stages.

David Smith is Assistant Professor in the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. Alan Bugg is Assistant Professor, Junshan Liu is Associate Professor, and Scott Kramer is the JE Wilborn Endowed Chair and Professor in the McWhorter School of Building Science.
