Graphic Design Program Awarded Funds from AU Concessions Board

The corkboards lining the walls of the ground floor hallway of Wallace Hall are covered with posters and projects showcasing a variety of graphic design projects, from logos and branding to web design and product packaging. This hallway serves multiple purposes, not the least of which is highlighting the work of students in Auburn’s Graphic Design program (GDES), which has been recognized by GDUSA Magazine as one of the top graphic design programs in the country.

The ground floor hallway in Wallace is in permanent use as an exhibition space for the GDES program, for work in progress and for final reviews and shows.  “The hallway displays are also a critical component for the recruitment of prospective students during family tours and visits,” stated Robert Finkel, Associate Professor of Graphic Design. Working with College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) Ambassador Elizabeth Campbell, Finkel recently applied for and was awarded funding from the AU Concessions Board to upgrade the hallway’s display surfaces. Thanks to this award, which is matched by funds from the School of Industrial + Graphic Design (SIGD), the hallways will now feature a more resilient, high-quality corkboard.

The AU Concessions Board, a committee of faculty, staff and students, is responsible for awarding funding from the President’s Office to those who are making life at Auburn better in some way. Finkel and Campbell’s award will support students, faculty and recruitment efforts in GDES. CADC student recruitment administrator Katherine Buck says that prospective students are eager to see the kind of work that GDES students produce. “The ground floor hallway of Wallace Hall always has displays of amazing projects that help prospective students and everyone who enters the building see what Graphic Design at Auburn University is all about.”
