MID Students’ Artificial Intelligence Work Named Red Dot Award Winner

Xilin Tang and Haoren Men, Master of Industrial Design (MID) students in Auburn’s School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD), were recognized with a 2024 Red Dot Design Award for their innovative approach to addressing environmental challenges in design.
The Red Dot Award is an international design competition for product design, communication design and design concepts, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious in the field.
The students’ project, Eco Fusion.AI, received recognition in the Artificial Intelligence category of the Design Concept competition. As noted on the award’s website, “the work combines AI and circular economy principles to convert plastic waste into high-quality filament for 3D printing.” The project was also praised for reducing pollution and offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional filaments. Recognized as a groundbreaking contribution to the 3D printing arena, the project exemplifies the power of design to address pressing environmental issues.
“This competition challenged our design abilities,” Haoren shared, “and we are honored to receive this award in recognition of our dedication.”
