Florence designer Carter McGuyer receives Auburn University Young Alumni Achievement Award

Carter McGuyer, a 1998 graduate of Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction, was recently named a recipient of one of the university’s 2013 Young Alumni Achievement Awards.

The award, sponsored by the Office of Alumni Affairs, was created in 2011 to recognize extraordinary accomplishments by members of the Auburn family, age 40 and under. Ten recipients were recognized for significant achievement in their professional lives and for distinguished community service.

“Auburn graduates are making significant contributions in a variety of occupations all across the globe, and some of the more interesting stories are happening with our young alumni,” said Debbie Shaw, vice president for alumni affairs at Auburn University. “It’s a great honor to recognize them in this way. Auburn’s future is shining a bit brighter due to the impact made by these impressive individuals.”

McGuyer graduated magna cum laude from Auburn with a degree in industrial design. He became the design director at a national branded kitchen manufacturing company and managed product design, packaging, overseas manufacturing and the company’s trade show presence. Carter then founded the Carter McGuyer Design Group where their goal is to develop beautiful and functional products. His work has won numerous awards including the 2003 Gourmet Gold Award, the 2004 Good Design Award, the 2009 Housewares Design Award for Best of the Best, the 2013 Housewares Design Award for Best in Category and the 2013 Red Dot design award.

“I had the privilege of Dr. Debbie Shaw presenting me with this award at our recent ‘Night of Champions’ benefit for the Shoals Area Auburn Club’s scholarship endowment,” McGuyer said.
“I was sincerely humbled, moved, and honored to receive such a prestigious award from the Auburn Alumni Association. I want to thank everyone who has ever been involved in my life that helped me achieve this honor. This is something that I will never forget.”

Awardees will be recognized in the winter issue of Auburn Magazine and will receive a certificate and special commemoration of the honor. Recipients were selected for distinguished community service locally, regionally, nationally or globally and for prominence in their business, profession or vocational endeavors.
