DESCRIPTION:The Auburn University Chapter of The American Institute of Architecture Students is hosting its 27th Annual Pumpkin Carve on Friday\, October 30\, in the newly renovated and re-designed Dudley Courtyard. Pumpkin Carve began as a studio project twenty-seven years ago and has now turned into one of the most celebrated events within the School of Architecture\, Planning and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University. Architecture students invite all students\, as well as community members of all ages\, to gather in the courtyard of Dudley Hall to carve pumpkins. Carving begins at 9 a.m. The pumpkins will be illuminated and judging will begin at 6:00 p.m. \n  \nWatch the live stream. \n  \nSchedule \n9am – Carving Begins \n11:30am – Lunch \n6pm – Pumpkins Lit + Judging Begins \n7pm – Pumpkin Carving\, Silent Auction\, Costume Contest\, + Raffle Winners Announced \n8pm – Auction of Pumpkins \n  \nALL DAY EVENTS \n“Costume Contest” – College students\, kids\, faculty\, and visitors are encouraged to come carve a pumpkin in their Halloween costumes. Upon arrival\, costume contest participants can take a picture in front of a designated wall. All the photos will be judged and winners will be announced at 7pm *Winners must be present to receive prize* \n  \n“Aubie!” – Aubie will be in attendance at various times throughout the day \n  \n“Refreshments” – Though hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at lunch\, CADC Organizations will be selling snacks\, treats\, and beverages all day long \n  \nIn regards to parking\, after 5pm\, visitors can park in the South Quad Parking Deck on Lem Morrison Dr. and Duncan Dr.

SUMMARY:APLA Fall Lecture Series:  Mariana Ibanez
DESCRIPTION:Mariana Ibanez is Associate Professor of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She teaches in the architecture core design studio sequence. Ibanez is an Argentinean architect and designer. Before attending the Architectural Association in London for her Master of Architecture\, she was one of the principals of FIV Architectura\, a firm that focused on the design and construction of ephemeral structures for performance spaces.   \nIbanez has been a guest critic at the AA\, MIT\, RISD and other institutions since 2004 and previously taught Design Studio from 1999 to 2002 at the University of Buenos Aires where she had received her Bachelor of Architecture. In 2005 she co-founded I/K Studio with Simon Kim\, a research and design practice with projects in London and Buenos Aires. After her graduate studies\, she joined the Advanced Geometry Unit at ARUP before going to the office of Zaha Hadid where she developed several projects as well as leading the design for the London Aquatic Centre for the 2012 Olympic Games. \n  Ibanez will present her lecture\, The Immersive\, November 9 in B6 auditorium in Dudley Commons at 4:00 p.m . Carranza on March 28\, Dudley Commons B6 at 4 p.m. \n  \nLecture title: “Modern Architecture in Latin America: Art\, Technology and Utopia” \n  \nLuis E. Carranza is Professor of Architecture and of Art and Architectural History at Roger Williams University in Bristol\, Rhode Island\, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University”s Graduate School of Architecture\, Planning and Preservation. He obtained his B.Arch. at the University of Southern California and his PhD in Architectural History and Theory from Harvard University.  \n His research and published work focuses primarily on modern architecture and modern art and architecture in Latin America (with an emphasis on Mexico). This work emphasizes the relationship and codependence of social\, literary\, philosophical\, and theoretical ideas within the historical and material culture of architecture and design. Much of his research on these historical and theoretical themes can be found throughout his publications and\, specifically\, in Architecture as Revolution: Episodes in the History of Modern Mexico (University of Texas Press\, 2010) and in Modern Architecture in Latin America: Art\, Technology\, Utopia [with Prof. Fernando Lara] (University of Texas Press\, January 2015).

Two workshop sessions on placemaking will be on April 8\, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in 204 Dudley. All events are free and open to the public. \n  \nAn accomplished city planner\, urban designer\, architect\, author\, and educator. Silberberg is Founder and Director of CivicMoxie\, LLC\, a planning\, urban design\, real estate advisory and strategic placemaking group with experience in serving municipalities\, not for profits\, corporations\, developers\, foundations\, and community groups. She taught in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT for thirteen years and is the lead author of Places in the Making: How placemaking builds places and communities\, the MIT white paper on the current state of placemaking. DESCRIPTION:Designing Green is an annual event hosted by the School of Industrial + Graphic Design that focuses on sustainable design awareness and practice. This year\, Auburn”s Industrial Design program is teaming up with designer and inventor Dirk Vander Kooji\, Eastman Innovation Lab and Autodesk for the 2016 Designing Green Competition\, and students from the IDSA South District Conference schools have been invited to compete. Their challenge is to design a piece of furniture or other interior décor item that uses the unique\, large scale capabilities of Dirk Vander Kooji”s Endless 3D printer. \n  \nDesigning Green lectures begin at 9:00 a.m. on April 15\, 2016\, in the Student Activities Center\, room 104. Bryan Shackelford\, IDSA\, of Eastman Innovation Lab will lecture at 9:00 a.m.\, and Dirk Vander Kooji will Skype from the Netherlands at 10:00.
