Architecture Continuing Education Day

This summer's Continuing Education Event at Auburn University will be held on Thursday July 31, 2014 at the College of Architecture, Design and Construction's Dudley Commons in Parker Auditorium (B6) from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The schedule is as follows: Auburn University School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture Continuing Education Courses: Thursday, July 31, 2014 in B6 Auditorium, Dudley Commons TOTAL HOURS- 8 LU | HSW, 7 have already been approved by the AIA, the 8th is pending. 7:30 Breakfast and Registration 7:50 Welcome 8:00 “Alabama Commercial Energy Code” Bourke Reeve, ECLC, LEED Project Manager Learning Units: 1.5 LU|HSW This workshop focuses on the scope, application, and methods of demonstrating compliance with ASHRAE 90.1-2007 and IECC Chapter 5. 9:30 “Sustainable Preservation” Bourke Reeve, ECLC, LEED Project Manager Learning Units: 1.5 LU|HSW This course will introduce a green building certification program that provides owners, architects, builders, renovators and project managers with the information they need achieve high performance historic structures. 11:00 PENDING… Learning Units: 1 LU|HSW 12:00 LUNCH- Barbeque House (Provided by Alagasco) 1:00 “U.S. Department of Energy Challenge Home Program- A Case Study” Martha Merzig, MIDC ‘14 and Jonathan Gandy, MIDC ‘14 Learning Units: 1 LU|HSW This course will present an overview of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Challenge Home Program. 2:00 “Enhancing the past: renovations and additions that perform” Greg Walker, AIA Principal Houser Walker Learning Units: 1.5 LU|HSW This course, taught by a registered Architect with substantial expertise in renovation and the creation of additions for older structures, will review several case studies that explore the opportunities and challenges of working with existing buildings. 3:30 “Place Making and Urban Design Principles” Ben Wieseman, AICP Learning Units: 1.5 LU|HSW This class, taught by a Landscape Architect who is also AICP certified with the American Planning Association, will present case studies that exhibit best practices in urban design and Place making. 5:00 ADJOURN HSW LUs approved by the AIA will be accepted by both the State Board for Architects and Interior Designers
