ABOUT THE DONOR

Earlon McWhorter graduated from Auburn with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction in 1968. He is president of McWhorter and Co. Inc., an Alabama-based general construction company, and owner of McWhorter Properties. In 2001, McWhorter was appointed an at-large member of the Auburn University Board of Trustees by Governor Don Siegelman and served as president pro tempore of the board for four years. McWhorter has been a member of the Auburn Alumni Association, chairman of the Greater Auburn Fund and a member of the Executive Committee. McWhorter, who also served on the Alabama Commission for Higher Education, is married to Betty G. McWhorter and has two children.

A named endowed chair honors the contributor and brings prestige to outstanding administrators by providing the resources necessary to ensure that key positions are adequately funded. Earlon and Betty McWhorter have chosen to establish a named chair position for the dean of the college so that Auburn can recruit and retain the best administrator for this position.
