CADC to Establish Roger Rice Memorial AGC Student Chapter Scholarship

Roger Rice

The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) is pleased to announce the creation of the Roger Rice Memorial AGC Student Chapter Scholarship. Professor Rice, who was a Senior Lecturer in the McWhorter School of Building Science, passed away on April 19, 2020.

As an alumnus of Auburn’s building science program, Professor Rice’s goal was to return to his alma mater to inspire a new generation of students in the same way that his professors had inspired him. He was known for his love of teaching and his willingness to help students in any way he could. Rice spent hours assisting students with their coursework and made meaningful connections with everyone he met. “He helped me understand many concepts that I had not been able to grasp in other courses,” student Haley Hendrick stated. “He knew every single student’s name he ever had and went out of his way to learn and remember where they were from. Professor Rice truly embodied what I think is a great Auburn man.”

After Professor Rice’s passing, funds were raised in his name as a memorial. In addition to those gifts, his wife, Amanda Mount Rice, has made a personal commitment to provide funding to fully endow the Roger Rice Memorial AGC Student Chapter Scholarship. Amanda’s commitment ensures that Roger Rice’s legacy will last for generations within the college he loved. If you are interested in personally supporting the Roger Rice Memorial AGC Student Chapter Scholarship, please contact CADC Development Associate Christopher Griffin.
