Building Science Student to Serve as CADC’s Summer Commencement Marshal
John Adam Singleton of Thomasville, Ga., has been selected as the student marshal for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) at Auburn University’s summer 2025 commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, August 9.

Singleton will receive a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction form the McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI). During his time at Auburn, Singleton served as vice president and chairman of the construction management honor society Sigma Lambda Chi and took second place in the National Roofing Contractors Association’s Student Competition.
His fondest memory of the building science program is constructing a baseball equipment shed for impoverished youth in Jonestown, Miss., as part of his service-learning course. He also recently participated in a BSCI study abroad program, traveling through Europe’s Nordic/Alpine region to study global construction management.
“Construction is the heartbeat of civilization: it shapes the world we live in,” Singleton said. “Therefore, those within the construction industry have a great deal of responsibility.”
“I have always wanted to make an impact through the work that I do, and my education at the McWhorter School of Building Science will allow me to change the world every day.”
In the summers of 2023 and 2024, he interned at Brasfield & Gorrie in Columbus, Ga., and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Tallahassee, Fla., respectively, gaining experience in commercial general contracting. After graduation, Singleton plans to begin his career at Whiting-Turner’s branch in Nashville, Tenn.

Singleton’s Auburn experience set him up for success, both professionally and personally.
“Auburn Building Science graduates carry an excellent reputation within the construction industry, and the Auburn Family is like no other,” he said. “There is a class of people here who are kind and proud, leaving a mark in every interaction you have with them. Because of this, I have met many good friends and have become a better friend myself.”
