Building Science Student to Serve as CADC’s Summer Commencement Marshal
Nic Coffey of Trussville, Alabama, has been selected as the student marshal for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) at Auburn University’s summer 2024 commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Coffey will receive a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from the McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI). During his time at Auburn, he served as vice president of the student chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors and was also a student member of the Associated General Contractors and the Design Build Institute of America. In addition, he volunteered with Alabama Rural Ministries, improving homes for Lee County residents, as well as Third Lens, a non-profit organization that designs and builds structures for those in need.
After graduation, Coffey plans to pursue an MBA from Auburn’s Harbert College of Business and will serve as a GTA for BSCI during the 2024–2025 academic year.
“My long-term goal,” he said, “is to utilize my experience in finance, construction and real estate development to transform and enrich communities.”
For Coffey, his Auburn experience has been the perfect preparation for the career of service he plans to pursue. “Looking back on my time here, I can confidently say it was an excellent place to grow,” he said. “The opportunities, resources and people are here, you just have to leverage them in a way to create your own success.
“I consistently found Auburn has the best industry network in the country,” he added. “Both the student organizations and professors leveraged their relations in the industry to bring in experts who taught about their successes, lessons learned and applications to class content. It was very inspiring and encouraging to students.”
