BSCI Grad Competes in Rio
Every four years, the world witnesses super-human endeavors and crowns new champions at the Olympics. This year, the Olympics in Brazil is where world-class athletes will compete in their respective events. One of the most popular events is the swimming competitions set to begin on August 6 at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium at Barra Olympic Park in Rio.
One of the ten swimmers and coaches representing Auburn, is George Bovell (2003–06). George Richard Lytcott Bovell, who majored in building science, will compete in the 50 free style, his fifth consecutive Olympics for Trinidad and Tobago. A bronze medalist in the 200 Individual Medley in the 2004 games in Athens, Bovell earned 25 All-America honors during his Auburn career, which stands as the school record. In addition to his Olympics honor, Bovell won several Gold and Silver medals in the Pan-American Games. He finished his Auburn career as a seven-time SEC Champion, five-time NCAA Champion, and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in his senior season (2005–06).
