Sands presented his paper, “Construction and Engineering Faculty Internships: A Reflective Case Study,” at 2025 ASEE-SE Conference, held March 9–11 at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. This year’s conference theme, “The Lifelong Engineer: Enduring, Meaningful Impacts in Engineering Education,” brought together faculty, students and industry leaders to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning in engineering, engineering technology and computing education.

“I’m truly honored to receive this award from the ASEE-SE section,” Sands stated. “It underscores the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry in engineering and construction education. I hope it inspires more faculty members to get a refresher of real-world industry experiences, ultimately enriching the classroom environment for students and fostering stronger connections with professional practice.” Sands’ research offers valuable insights into faculty internships as a means to enrich engineering and construction education and strengthen connections between academia and the professional field.
