The Auburn University McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI) has launched a new student chapter of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Sponsored by the Greater Montgomery Home Builder Association (GM-HBA), the organization will serve as a platform for students who are interested in the residential construction industry. Whether students are eager to learn more about homebuilding, development or even starting their own business, Auburn’s NAHB Student Chapter will provide valuable opportunities to gain real-world insights, network with industry leaders and explore different career paths.

“I am very excited about the NAHB Student Chapter and the events our student leaders are planning, including site visits to residential projects,” stated Dr. Amna Salman, NAHB Student Chapter Faculty Advisor and Assistant Professor in BSCI. “These experiences will provide invaluable real-world insights, hands-on learning opportunities and the chance to network with industry leaders.”

The launch of this chapter coincides with another exciting development: a grant from NAHB’s Homebuilding Education Leadership Program (HELP). The initiative, led by Dr. Salman and Dr. Tom Leathem, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Chair, aims to enhance students’ educational offerings in residential construction. As a result, BSCI will soon offer courses focused on residential construction and development.

“The establishment of our student chapter, along with the HELP grant, marks an important step in strengthening our partnership with NAHB,” Salman said. “We’re excited to see how both shape the future of residential construction education at Auburn.”
