Explore academic enrichment
Interior Architecture typically offers one outreach studio in the curriculum. Examples have included; the historic Elba Theatre in Elba, AL; DASH (Dependable Affordable Sustainable Housing) Neighborhood Revitalization in LaGrange, GA; and several projects in Selma, AL.
For “summer thesis”, Interior Architecture students visit examples of canonical interior in the United States. Field studies have included trips to Los Angeles; New York and New Canaan, CT; the NeoCon commercial interiors show in Chicago; Boston and New Haven, CT; and Detroit, MI and Columbus, IN.
2019 Summer Thesis Trip
Each summer the interior architecture thesis program travels to study the work of a particular architect and/or context related to the studio agenda. In 2019 the studio traveled to Detroit, Michigan and Columbus, Indiana with a focus on the work of Eliel and Eero Saarinen. In addition the class researched co-working spaces and visited Herman Miller in Zeeland, Michigan.
