Alabama Construction Industry Hall of Fame Inducts Two College of Architecture, Design and Construction Supporters

Two of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction strongest supporters have been inducted into the 2014 Alabama Construction Industry Hall of Fame: Earlon C. McWhorter (a 1968 Building Science graduate) and Patrick B. Davis Jr., FAIA, NCARB. Both are generous donors of their time and gifts to the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. The Construction Industry Hall of Fame was established by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Alabama to honor outstanding general contractors, specialty contractors or suppliers, and architects or engineers who have served the Alabama construction for at least 25 years and who are held in high esteem by their peers for their professionalism and for their civic and community involvement.

Earlon McWhorter founded McWhorter and Co., Inc. in 1971. It has grown into one of the top general contractors in the region. In 1989, He started McWhorter Properties, which has developed 50 of the 200 Lowe’s centers constructed by McWhorter and Company. McWhorter has been involved in his community through service on several charitable boards and served on the Auburn University’s Board of Trustees in the at-large appointment from 2001 to 2009 and as Chairman of the Greater Auburn Fund and a member of the Auburn Alumni Association Executive Committee. He has been an extremely generous supporter of Auburn University and its Building Science program. His contributions include the Earlon and Betty McWhorter Center for Women’s Athletics, the McWhorter School of Building Science, and significant endowed faculty and program support: the Earlon McWhorter Endowed Chair for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction; the Earlon McWhorter and Betty McWhorter Endowed Chair in the McWhorter School of Building Science; the Earlon McWhorter and Betty McWhorter Eminent Scholar Chair in the McWhorter School of Building Science; and the Earlon and Betty McWhorter Fund for Excellence in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction that supports the CADC’s highly respected Master of Integrated Design and Construction program.

Patrick B. Davis. Jr. FAIA, NCARB, is vice president of Healthcare Services at CMH Architects, Inc., in Birmingham, Alabama. A Vietnam veteran, he has been active in the design of Vietnam Memorial and has created the Patrick and Judy Davis Endowed Scholarship in the CADC that gives consideration to U.S. military active duty servicemen or military veterans. Davis has held offices in several state and national organizations: President of the AIA Birmingham Chapter in 1999 and in 2003; President of the statewide Alabama Council AIA; and 2009 President of the Alabama Architectural Foundation where he helped establish the Intern Development Committee. In 2011, Davis was elected to the AIA College of Fellows. He was appointed to the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) in 2012. His service has been recognized with the Alabama Council’s Architects Accolade Award and the Exceptional Service Award. In recognition of his generous gifts of time and talent, the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture awarded Davis its Distinguished Service Award.

“Patrick Davis has been a terrific advocate for our students for many years, sharing his time, experience, and passion for architecture. We are very proud to see him recognized by the Alabama Construction Hall of Fame for his influence and impact on our profession and the design and construction industry in Alabama,” says David Hinson, Head of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.
