Designing Green 2015- Taking Cues from Nature

This year’s Designing Green sustainable design competition explored biomimicry—or seeking sustainable design solutions by emulating nature’s designs and patterns. David Oakey, of David Oakey Designs in LaGrange, GA and a leading advocate of biomimicry and sustainable design, was this year’s speaker. He introduced the 2015 design challenge: find something in nature that could inspire a design project—how would nature design it? Ten teams competed in the 24-hour challenge. The winning submission, Creative Colony, was inspired by the habitats of bees and paper wasps. Team members were Ethan Gulley, Cody Proksa, Grant Galtney, Marc LaPilusa.
