Request for Acquisition of a DJI FPV (First Person View) Drone System to Enhance Research and Teaching

The FPV flying allows a drone pilot to see where the drone is flying and what it is seeing as if it had its own eyes, which enables drones to fly in tight spaces and in close proximity to objects for image capturing or inspection. FPV flying also means enhanced experience and improved accessibility to places that would have been inaccessible by conventional ground vision flying drones.

The PI took advantages of the opportunity of this new drone and experimented it in his teaching and research.  He has used this drone on his research projects for capturing aerial photos, including the Old Depot Museum and Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL, and the USS Alabama Battleship project in Mobile.  This new drone was used to demonstration to BSCI students and faculty, and a group of international military officers at BSCI Field Lab in summer 2021.  It was also used by BSCI thesis students to capture aerial photos for their field layout.
