The Holloway Payne and David Frazier Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship

Holloway Payne and David Frazier

The Holloway Payne and David Frazier Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship was recently established by two School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA) alumni, David Frazier (BArch ’11) and Holloway Payne (BArch’14). The scholarship recognizes an academically successful student for their leadership in studio and talent with hand-drawing, providing financial support for international travel through one of the many APLA travel abroad programs.

Frazier, a native of Lanett, Alabama, and Payne, of Pike Road, Alabama both participated in APLA former semester-long program in Rome, Italy. Both Frazier and Payne feel that studying architecture in an international setting was pivotal to their development as successful professionals in their respective careers and wanted to help future APLA students to benefit from the same formative experience.

They also credit Architecture Professor Emeritus, J. Scott Finn, former head of the place-based Rome Program with helping them make important connections in New York City and in Montgomery that launched their professional careers. Frazier now leads David Frazier, an Architectural and Interior Design firm, based in New York City, and Payne is Studio Director for McALPINE in New York City.

Frazier and Payne agree that their motivation for establishing this gift was to celebrate the unique relationships they cultivated at Auburn and provide students the financial support needed to study in an immersive foreign setting. “In a field not known for always being supportive or accommodating, Holly and I found a level of support at Auburn that greatly affected our lives. We want to give back to APLA and CADC to foster that those kinds of experience and relationships from afar.”

This past spring semester 2022 was the first time the Holloway Payne and David Frazier Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship was awarded. Alumni support, like this generous gift, plays a crucial role in the CADC’s ongoing efforts to support our students with high-impact learning experiences.
