Building Science Student Receives AU Undergraduate Research Fellowship

James Craig, senior in the McWhorter School of Building Science, has been awarded an Auburn University Undergraduate Research Fellowship for summer 2021. The fellowship program provides funding to students in the form of a stipend and additional funds for research-related expenses. Craig will be spending his summer research fellowship advancing his work on use of robotics and artificial intelligence in construction. Craig has been working on the project with his faculty mentor, Jeff Kim, assistant professor in the McWhorter School of Building Science. Kim’s research focuses on programming robots so that they can perform semi-autonomous tasks moving materials around a construction work site. Building on Kim’s work, Craig is working to adapt the robot’s programming to allow the robot to move from task-to-task without needing to return to home base.

Craig expects to complete his fellowship this summer and graduate in August 2021.  

The Auburn University Undergraduate Research Fellowships are available for year-long or single semester durations; the amount of funding available varies according to the length of fellowship. The application process for the 2022-2023 Undergraduate Research Fellowships will open in the fall.
