William A. Hunt Endowed Professorship

 

ABOUT THE DONOR

William A. Hunt graduated from Auburn in 1955 with a Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction. After graduation, Bill moved to Pensacola and eventually started a general contracting business, Guin & Hunt, Inc., in 1959 and then formed Gulf-Atlantic Constructors as sole owner in 1971. In 1977, the direction of the company was changed to include site work and road construction. The company has grown to include an employee base of 75 employees and annual revenues of $18 to $22 million. A 40-year member and former president of the Northwest Florida Chapter of the Associated General Contractors, Hunt has also served in numerous positions with the National AGC. He is a Life Director of the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE). Bill founded his company on the premise that honesty is the best policy. The Combined Rotary of Pensacola awarded him with the Ethics in Business Award in 2003 and named him a Paul Harris Fellow, its highest award, in 2000.

In addition to creating a successful business, Bill has devoted time and resources towards the continued improvement of the academic programs in the college. Bill has served on the Building Science Industry Advisory Council, the Dean’s Executive Board and Dean’s Club. The School of Building Science awarded Bill with the Distinguished Service Award in 2001 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

To honor former Building Science professors such as Ed Marty, Paul Brandt and Keith McPheeters, Bill and Ann chose to create the William A. Hunt Endowed Professorship. They also support Building Science students through their endowed scholarship.
