Applications for departmental scholarships are available each January for the upcoming academic year. Approximately $120,000 is given to students each year. Qualifications vary for each scholarship and may include grades, financial need, and certain residency requirements.
An online scholarship application process for Building Science begins approximately the third week in January through March 1st each year. When the application is in production and ready for students to complete, the scholarship coordinator will send out an e-mail to every Pre-Building Science and Building Science student in the program. Those eligible to apply are currently enrolled students who have completed a minimum of 15 hours at Auburn University OR completed a total of 2 Building Science courses by the end of the fall semester before the application process begins in January. A link to the application can be found, on the BSCI homepage during the annual application deadline dates set for January through March first each year.
The number and amount of awards vary each year based on the number of donors providing scholarship funds. In Spring 2010, our donors provided 53 scholarships totaling $102,550.00.
A message for In-coming Freshmen:
The McWhorter School of Building Science has two annual scholarship opportunities for in-coming freshmen. These scholarships are by invitation only. The criteria for selection is a combination of the state of residency, high school GPA, ACT/SAT test scores, and financial need. Accepted students who meet the criteria for selection will be sent an invitation letter and application to return to the Scholarship Coordinator by March 1st. The student chosen for the award will receive a formal congratulatory letter from the school head outlining the terms of his/her award.
After the first semester in Pre-Building Science, students who have completed a minimum of 15 hours at Auburn University or a minimum of 2 Building Science classes, will be eligible to apply for the annual scholarship awards for currently enrolled students. The online application will be made available by the end of January and must be completed no later than March 1st. Students will be notified via Auburn University e-mail when the online applications are available to submit. Contact
Carolyn Smith, Scholarship Coordinator for more information at (334) 844-4518 or

FAFSA
It is important that students have filled out a Free Application for Financial Aid, called a FAFSA. The FAFSA may be filled out online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The FAFSA should be on file with the Auburn University Student Financial Aid Office. When filling out the FAFSA, students should submit the code for Auburn University in order to send the information to Auburn. Most McWhorter School of Building Science scholarships stipulate that a FAFSA form be on file with Auburn University. Even if a student does not qualify for financial aid, she/he might still be eligible for a School scholarship if a FAFSA is on file. Please check FAFSA deadlines at the website address http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/deadlines.htm.
