Graphic Design Students Garner National Recognition

A number of Auburn University Graphic Design students have placed highly in competitive competitions in recent months.  Grace Harkin (Design 1, Prof. Robert Finkel) and Mallory Michael (Typographics 2, Prof. Kelly Bryant), had works that won the annual GDUSA Design Competition(previously featured in Showcase).  In this highly selective national design competition, both designs were selected out of 10,000 entries with only 10% being awarded a Certificate of Excellence. Their work will be published in the April 2019, Design Awards issue of GDUSA and online in the GDUSA 2018 Design Awards Gallery.  Hailey Briggs, a student in Prof. Courtney Windham’s Interactive Media course, also won a Certificate of Excellence in the 2018 GDUSA Web Design Awards.  Her work will also be featured in the magazine and online gallery.

CADC’s Fall Graduation Marshal, Will Givens, was selected as a winner in the Communication Arts9thAnnual Typography competition.  His Planets poster from Prof. Kelly Bryant’s Typographics 2 course last spring was selected out of 1,653 entries with only 15% being awarded a Certificate of Excellence. His selected project will appear in the Communication Arts Typography Annual in January/February 2019.

The GraphisNew Talent Annual saw three winners from Auburn: Madison Elrod and Heidi Kieffer (gold) and Megan Kesting.  Their works were selected from thousands of entries from students around the world.  Maverick Beard Care Companypackagingfrom Prof. Robert Finkel’s Design 1 class, Sundance 2020 Trailer from Prof. Courtney Windham’s Kinetic Typography classand Bad Ass Coffee also from Prof. Finkel’s Design 1 course, respectively, will be published in the upcoming Graphis book.
