2018 marks the 40th year of Design Interaction, a celebration of design and its impact hosted by the School of Industrial + Graphic Design. On Friday, September 28, students, faculty, and staff gathered at Wallace hall beginning at 9:00 am to hear from guest speakers Adam Shilling (Convergent—Atlanta, GA) and Pree Kolari (eBay—San Francisco, CA).

Shilling, an Auburn University alumnus, spoke on his experience as a communicator through his tenure as Managing Director of Creative at Convergent Media. During his career, he has built successful campaigns for BMW, Home Depot, Best Buy, Sony, and others.

Kolari is a UX executive and product designer who worked on eBay’s mobile app as well as Windows Phone 7 and Xbox Kinect. During his time at SonicRim, he co-founded MemeTales—an app for kids that was featured the Apple app store. He currently works for eBay in Design and Research for New Products. He employs principles of User-Centered Design and Design Thinking in his work—both of which produce compelling end results.

Following the presentations, everyone gathered for lunch and tours of the studios. “This annual event is a long-standing celebration of design at Auburn University,” says Clark Lundell, Head of the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. “Our students are exposed to the work of outstanding professionals who, in turn, evaluate and discuss student work currently being generated in the studios.”
