Jon Byler is the Workshop Manager for the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture’s Model and Fabrication shop. He previously worked for the Department of Art and Art History at Auburn, managing their sculpture and ceramics facilities for 13 years. Jon is interested by a very broad range of subjects both at work and in his personal life, from woodworking and metal work, to vintage machinery, backyard chickens, antique radios, electronics, and modern German literature. He is familiar and capable with a diverse palette of materials and processes, always working to expand his knowledge base. Through his work with students in the shop and elsewhere, Jon seeks to foster an inquisitive and creative mindset in the tradition of a classic liberal education.
Jon has a BA in German from Lewis and Clark College (1999), and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin – Madison (2004).
