The opening reception for the Senior Show is on Monday, May 1, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in Wallace Hall. The exhibit is open from 7:45 am to 4:45 pm and is free and open to the public.

Landscape Architecture Alumni Reunion

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture will host an alumni reunion for all landscape architecture graduates on the weekend of April 14–15. The reunion activities will include a lecture by Jack Williams, Emeritus Professor of Landscape Architecture, on Friday, April 14, 2017.

 

Williams, who was Professor and Chair of the Landscape Architecture and Urban Design program in the College of Architecture Design and Construction from 1992–2008, will present “Miniatures of Abnegation—The idea of the American Small Town in Literature, Images and Places,” at 3:30 pm in Dudley B6 Auditorium. Afterwards, he will be signing his book, Easy On, Easy Off: The Urban Pathology of American Small Towns (University of Virginia Press, 2016), which received the J.B. Jackson Prize for the best book in 2016 on landscape studies.

Holley Henderson ’94, LEED Fellow, founder of H2 Ecodesign and CADC Interior Architecture alumna, is a recognized sustainability and green building expert, author, consultant and speaker. She has been honored as a LEED Fellow, the green building industry’s most prestigious professional designation and has nearly 15 years and 4 million square feet of successful LEED Certifications around the world.

Nathaniel Walker presents final lecture in APLA Spring 2017 Series on April 3

Nathaniel R. Walker will present the final lecture in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architectures Spring 2017 lecture series, “UNFOLDING NARRATIVES: vision | contingency | legacy,” on Monday, April 3 at 3:30 pm, in Dudley auditorium B6. Walker, an Assistant Professor of Architectural History at the College of Charleston, specializes in the history of utopian cities and public space such as squares and streets in the United States and Europe. His lecture, “The Parade of Progress: General Motors’ Midcentury Campaign to Eliminate Walkable Communities in North America,” is free and open to the public. The APLA lecture series is supported by practicing architects, planners and landscape architects in the State of Alabama.

 

Events are held in Dudley Hall, Dudley Commons Parker Auditorium, B6 and are free and open to the public.
