Lorcan O’Herlihy, founder and principal of Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects in Los Angeles, CA, is the next speaker in the 2017–2018 Architecture Lecture Series, | in between |. LOHA’s commitment to design excellence in commercial, educational, and residential projects has earned over 85 national and local design awards. O’Herlihy’s lecture “Amplified Urbanism,” will be at 3:30 pm in B6 Dudley Commons. It is free and open to the public. APLA 2017–2018 Speaker Series: | in between | Thomas Robinson
Telfair Peet Theater
The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture’s 2017–2018 Lecture Series, | in between|, presents Thomas Robinson, Founder and Principal of LEVER Architecture, a Portland, Oregon-based design practice, on Wednesday, October 4 in Telfair Peet Theater. Robinson is pioneering the forest-to-frame movement and the development of mass timber building in the U.S. with the first wood high-rise, Framework. His lecture, “The Future of Tall: Building a Wood High Rise in the U.S.,” is at 2 pm and is free and open to the public. APLA Fall 2017 Lecture Series – Kate Orff

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture’s 2017–2018 Lecture Series, | in between|, begins on Monday, September 25, with a lecture by Kate Orff. Professor and Director of Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation’s Urban Design Program, Orff is responsible for founding and co-directing the GSAPP’s Urban Landscape Lab, an applied research group focused on the role of design in urban ecosystems. She is also the founding Principal of New York –based landscape architecture studio SCAPE, which focuses on biodiversity, community-based change, and sustainable design. Her lecture, “Toward an Urban Ecology,” is at 3:30 pm in Dudley B6 auditorium and is free and open to the public. The APLA lecture series is supported by practicing architects, planners and landscape architects in the State of Alabama.

Workshop in Classical Architectural Design
Auburn University
The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art in collaboration with the Auburn University School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture will present a two-day Workshop in Classical Architectural Design on September 22 (1 until 7 pm) and September 23 (9 am until 12 pm) at Dudley Hall and other campus locations. This workshop introduces the practice of classical architectural design with emphasis on its application in the design of new buildings and places. Continuing education credit will be offered: six HSW LUs for full program attendance.
