Auburn’s CADC Programs Ranked among Nation’s Best

Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction programs continue to be ranked among the nation’s best by DesignIntelligence Quarterly in its annual “American Best Architecture and Design Schools 2017-2018.” The rankings are based on annual surveys of leading practitioners in these fields. CADC’s undergraduate program in architecture is ranked eleventh, and its graduate program in landscape architecture is ranked twentieth.

“Auburn’s architecture, industrial design and landscape architecture programs are professionally relevant, intellectually challenging and socially responsible. They’re setting the standard for others around the country to follow,” says Dr. Steven Leath, President of Auburn University.

For the twelfth year, the Auburn architecture program in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture has been ranked in the top twenty program nationally. The DesignIntelligence Architecture Dean Survey ranked Auburn fourth among their most admired undergraduate architecture programs for its “outreach and community focus; socially relevant programs (rural studio); solid undergraduate education.”

Hiring professionals have voted Auburn architecture among the top ten of the following design focus areas: third in sustainable built environments/adaptive design/ resilient design; fifth in construction material and methods; seventh in healthy built environments; eighth in project planning and management and also in Practice management; and tenth in engineering fundamentals and also in Interdisciplinary studies.

For the fourth time in the last ten years, APLA’s graduate program in landscape architecture has been in the top twenty. Auburn’s Master of Landscape Architecture approaches issues facing the world as design problems that are investigated through the work students do in studios, seminars, workshops, and lectures, which enables students to understand and marshal the dynamic, flexible, fast-moving forces that form and re-form the landscapes of our cities and regions.

Because there have been no new DesignIntelligence rankings for industrial design since 2016, the School of Industrial and Graphic Design’s graduate program industrial design continues be ranked third in the nation; it has been in the top ten nationally for twelve years. Its undergraduate program is ranked fifth and has been in the top ten since 2007. One of the oldest industrial programs in the nation, Auburn industrial design is the only NASAD-accredited program in Alabama and is highly regarded for its product innovation, point-of-purchase design, marketing design, and industry collaborations.

The Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction is comprised of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture; the McWhorter School of Building Science, one of the oldest, largest and most respected construction management programs in the United States; and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design, whose Graphic Design program has been included in Graphic Design USA’s top graphic design programs for the past four years.
