Graphic Design Student Named a GDUSA Student to Watch 2015

Marcelo Blanco, a senior in the Graphic Design program in the School of Industrial + Graphic Design, is one of Graphic Design USA’s Students to Watch in 2015 in its January/February 2015 issue. Graphic Design USA, the print and online news magazine for the creative community, was assisted by leading schools and institutions in identifying 30 of the top art and design students in the United States. GDUSA says, “Our Students to Watch feature has become a tradition that resonates and renews: the students get recognized and the professional creative community gets refreshed.”

Marcelo was the Graphic Design faculty’s nomination for many reasons. “Marcelo embodies a spirit of inquiry, experimentation, and tireless work ethic that propels his creativity and critical thinking to superior levels,” explains Robert Finkel, assistant professor of graphic design. “He is able to find connections between multiple disciplines that enable him to formulate original and innovative creative solutions whether it is in the form of a printed book, a website, a poster, or even artistic illustrations and collage. In the studio class environment, he provides insightful and constructive feedback to his peers that challenges the entire graphic design studio community to strive for excellence. He is never without a smile‒often an indicator of a sudden creative revelation‒that indicates he is eager to return to the studio and begin exploring every possibility imaginable.”

See Marcelo’s senior project at the Graphic Design Senior Show on May 4-8, in Wallace Hall rooms 116-118.
