Your employment appointment will be for a nine-month period (mid-August through mid-May) of each academic year. Graduate assistant appointments are temporary. Continuation for future terms depends upon availability of funds, student performance, levels of enrollment, and teaching needs.
NOTE: Graduate Assistants on a 25 percent appointment are required to work a minimum of ten hours per week.
Pay day for all Graduate Assistants will be the last day of each month. If the last day of the month falls on a weekend, you will be paid on the last Friday of that month.
In addition to your assistantship, you will be automatically enrolled in the Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan. Graduate student assistants receive a supplement toward the total annual cost , which is billed in two installments, and brings your cost per semester to approximately $310 after application of the per semester subsidy. You can read more about the plan here.
If you already have health insurance, you may opt out of the Graduate Student Health Insurance plan by completing a “Waiver Request” found at the above URL and providing proof of current insurance.
Consideration for Summer employment is a separate process. These appointments will be based on school need and availability of funds.
The Graduate Program Officer has the option to place you on a twelve-month appointment. The GPO will discuss your specific appointment dates with you prior to any employment commitment.
