Christian Dagg Named Head of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture welcomes Christian Dagg as the new school head this fall. Dean Vini Nathan is pleased to announce that Dagg will serve a three-year term beginning August 16, 2017. “Christian brings to this leadership position a keen intellect coupled with much enthusiasm and dedication,” says Nathan.

Currently an associate professor in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, Dagg has taught at the Boston Architectural Center, Northeastern University, and Auburn University. He is a principal of Hinson + Dagg Architects, a firm recognized with AIA design awards at the local and state level for their attention to typology, materials and innovative response to context.

Dagg joined the faculty of Auburn University’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture in the fall of 2000. His teaching assignments are primarily in the Architecture Program and the Master of Real Estate Development Program. During his tenure he received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the School of Architecture AIAS, the CADC Outstanding Teaching Award and the CADC Collaborative Initiative Award. In 2013, Dagg and his colleague Kevin Moore were recipients of the NCARB Award for their project entitled “Studio: Urban Healthcare.”

He holds a Masters in Architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (with Distinction) and a Bachelor of Science in Art degree from Northeastern University (Magna Cum Laude). While in Boston, he worked in the offices of Machado and Silvetti Associates and Kallmann, McKinnell and Wood Architects on a series of notable projects.

During my time on the faculty, I have learned of the strengths and opportunities inherent in this school and the larger region,” says Dagg. “My aspiration is to work with the faculty to explore innovative ideas that can confront contemporary issues facing all of us who are concerned with our shared designed environment. Auburn has been a leading example to others interested in design build education, place-based urban field studies and the inclusion of collaborative tools for building performance analysis in the design studio. At the same time as we look forward, I hope we can celebrate the legacy of this school, rich with a history of exemplary teachers and alumni.”
