APLA Alumna Appointed to Design Museum Foundation Board of Directors

Elizabeth Lowery, a 1983 interior architecture alumna, has been appointed to the Design Museum Foundation Board of Directors. The Design Museum Foundation is a national nonprofit design museum with branches in Boston, San Francisco, and Portland, Oregon. Its mission is “to bring the transformative power of design everywhere, to inspire a world full of creative problem solvers by producing inspiring exhibitions and events, educating everyone from kids to CEOs in design thinking, and transforming cities and communities through innovative public demonstration projects.”

Lowery is Principal and Director of Interior Architecture at Elkus Manfredi Architects in Boston, Massachusetts. She says of her appointment, “I am thrilled to be a part of the Design Museum Foundation and its mission as a living national network of ideas. We are taking the design dialogue to new places that will engage people across the country and generate new thinking far beyond the physical products and buildings that we traditionally think of as ‘design.’ There is no limit to what can be accomplished by applying a design’s problem-solving process to challenges in fields like business, healthcare, and sustainability. I love the inclusiveness of the Design Museum, its reach, and its inventive, renegade spirit. It’s such a wonderful concept and opportunity, and I am lucky to be involved!” (Design Museum Foundation press release, January 9, 2017)
