This year McWhorter School of Building Science offered study abroad trips in China, Italy, and Ecuador—the only construction program in the nation to offer multiple International opportunities for construction students.

This semester an Industrial Design class developed tools that could solve common industry needs. Building Science faculty collected suggestions on construction problems that could be solved with a new tool or redesign. The students chose a specific problem and designed a cost-effective producible solution. This year’s projects ranged from a fixture that diffuses natural light from a light tube to a collapsible scaffolding system that can be assembled and disassembled by one person. One of the students, Hyuk Jae Chang, traveled to California with Faculty member, Paul Holley, to meet with a manufacturer interested in producing his Post-Tension Cable chair.
